Bone Marrow Registry

Chances for a match increase significantly if the patient and potential donor share the same ethnic background. Because Jews in the past lived in isolated communities, they are today more genetically related to each other than to non-Jews. Ezer Mizion established its registry in 1998 to increase the pool of Jewish potential donors. Israel, home to an entire spectrum of Jewish communities and ethnic backgrounds, is the natural location for a Jewish bone marrow registry.

Since the establishment of Ezer Mizion’s Bone Marrow Donor Registry in 1998, it has handled thousands of search requests from dozens of transplant centers in 48 countries around the world. Ezer Mizion’s Registry has made 9,741 complete donor-patient matches that have facilitated 2,201 stem cell transplants saving the lives of Jewish patients throughout the world and sparing thousands of people untold anguish.

Today, Ezer Mizion’s Bone Marrow Donor Registry is the largest Jewish registry in the world. The Registry is a vital resource for thousands of Jewish patients and serves as a safety net for Jews everywhere.

THE NCF, has establishes a Donor Pool in the Registry. A “Personalized Donor Pool” is a unique opportunity for an individual or group to become a sponsor of the DNA testing of a segment of Ezer Mizion’s Registry. NCF is hopeful to find a match for a transplant and save lives! A “Personalized Donor Pool” will enable significant growth of the Registry thus substantially increasing the probability of saving the life of each patient whose sole chance of survival is a transplant.

Dear Alex and Rosa,

We are excited to share the amazing news that you have saved a life!
The Alex & Rosa Dembitzer Donor Pool has now saved two patients who needed a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor.

Your generosity enabled the bone marrow donor to join the registry, which enabled us to match the donor to this patient.

We hope that your special privilege to save someone fills you with satisfaction.

Thank you for partnering with Ezer Mizion. May you always be blessed to be on the giving end!

We look forward to having you with us at the Gala Reception being hosted by Israel’s President in his home on September 19th, honoring donor pool sponsors and stem cell donors, and celebrating the decade anniversary of the lifesaving partnership between Ezer Mizion’s registry and the IDF.

In sincere appreciation,

Dr. Bracha Zisser
Director, Bone Marrow Donor Registry
